Start here. It's free, it's easy, and it needs to be done anyway. If it doesn't fix it, nothing lost.

However if I take off with the trans down in first it accelerates just fine(I dont do this regularly, just once to see if it made a difference). Ive checked the trans fluid several times and its okay. I don't know too much about trans so hopefully you guys can help me out.
Did you figure out your problem?
My 95 xj jas the exact same acceleration problem.
works great in 1-2 but not in drive. I changed the solenoids with no avail..

Default Slow acceleration on my 1990 jeep cherokee

I just had to replace my exhaust manifold and injectors on my 1990 jeep cherokee. In the process I also changed my throttle cable. Now my jeep moves very slow with the pedal to the floor. Any suggestions on what it could be?

i bought my jeep many years ago with this problem. i changed the TCU computer, TCU fuse, and even the transmission to no avail.

drove it like that for a few years, starting in 1-2, then shifting to 3, then D. it's kinda hard on the trans, since it skips 2 and goes straight to 3.

then someone on here said it was the TPS, i didn't believe it at first, but went ahead and pulled one off a parts jeep, and haven't looked back since.

So, the trans side of that TPS would have been totally dead. I've never seen this before.

It's easily tested on the vehicle so that's one to keep in mind.

Hmm.

Last post over 7 years ago? I'm thinking he's probably not going to respond.
