Hi Guys, Im still kinda new to jeeps here and I am mechanically inclined but not very well experienced with transmissions, clutches and related.
My 93' XJ 4.0 5spd AX-15 has been increasingly harder to shift. Mainly since its become colder. To start off it was pretty much grinding alot going into reverse. Now it still grinds ony trying to reverse but as well seems to not want to get into 1st or reverse at all anymore. To get going in the morning ive had to just shut it off and shift into either than start it up in gear. Take-offs from lights have been mainly in 2nd to get going.
Otherwise once moving it shifts through all gears, not smoothly, no grinds, but fine 2-5. Not sure if I have internal or external slave (checking tonight once off work) since AX-15 had both i guess? Is there a way to test the slave or any cheap easy remedies to try before I either drop trans. or pay for the slave and other stuff to repair the problem? Any help or advice is appreciated guys! Sounds like the slave and clutch master are getting weak.
I would start there.
