Default Simple Tune-Up?

Ive got an 01' XJ with 200K miles on it. After school everyday I go to pick my sister up from her school. It's about a 20 minute drive at most and I turn my Jeep off when I get there for about 15 minutes. Well when I go to start it back up it shakes like crazy and idles really low. Have read the hot soak post by Damiler-Chrystler and put the heat shield on Cylinder 3 injector. Cleaned the IAC Valve and Throttle Body and that helped a little but it still shakes. It is even beginning to do it at red lights. Help wanted.

Last time the spark plugs were changed with the proper NGKs?

Your injectors could be dirty and hanging open.
Search BG44K.

Get your butt in gear and do it then.

Do the 44K treatment.

Check all your fluid levels and conditions while you're at it.
Inspect and adjust your brakes as needed.

Grease every zerk fitting you can find.

^This, when I bought my XJ 2 of the plugs had the electrode burned down past the ceramic and it idled like crap, new plugs did wonders. People are so used to newer vehicles with platinum/iridium plugs from the factory that can go 100k mi+, that vehicles that use copper plugs (like the XJ and other vehicles with the 4.0L I6) often end up going way past the 30k mi change interval.


The 4.0L I6 also is known to not like anything but the OE NGK/Champion copper plugs and often run poorly with platinum plugs, and especially multi-electrode (Bosch, E3, etc.) plugs.


Cleaning the injectors and replacing the heat shields can't hurt either.


Of course there is also always the potential for sensor/wiring issues as well.

Trust me, already replaced more than I was expecting to.
New Brakes (Pads, Rotors, Hubs, Calipers, Master Cylinder and so on)
Ball Joints
New steering gear box, Pittman arm, tie rod end
New Fluids all around
Everything is greased
All new relays and fuses
New PCM
Ill admit I did things backwards but basic tune up time now.

Going to pick up the plugs tomorrow. Best head shields to use? Thanks

When you say put the heatshield on the cylinder 3 are you talking some wrap or the factory piece. Run that and Champions in my '00. No misfire or heat soak issues so far.

No I've got wraps on the injectors. Where did you get that shield from?

It's factory on some years. Not sure how far back. Always kinda figured it was Chrysler's fix for the heat soak that '00's and '01's are more prone to. I own an '00 but do not have that problem. Mine was on my Jeep when I got her, many times they are missing, and I replaced it with a new one when I did the 4 hole injector upgrade. Owned a '96 also but if one was on there long gone by the time I got her. Anyway my Jeep Dealer had it in stock. Part# CBXCB060. Cost me $2.20 plus tax. You might pay a shade more. Work in an auto parts store and deal with the guys down there. Pretty sure they do the best they can on the price.
