Default Simple radiator help

I'm trying to get the parts I need for the Renix cooling system upgrade.

I called the parts store and they told me my upper radiator hose is 1 1/8" on one end and 1 3/4" on the other.

Since I'm just putting in a T fitting instead of replacing the radiator, what size T do I get??

That's a pretty big size difference. I'd double check that with another store. Every one I find is like 1 3/16" on one end and 1 7/16" on the other. Check the actual manufacturer product data on their website. Parts stores tend to list dimensions incorrectly.

Get a tee that's the next size up from what you think the inside diameter will be at the splice point. You can be a little bigger and still make it work fine by stretching it a bit, but if it's too small there's no hope in it working.

I'm doing the exact same thing as Gee once I get my paycheck, thanks for the help man! One question tho, when replacing the pressure tank with an overflow tank, do you need a return line from the tank that ties into the cooling system? Or is it for overflow only and doesn't let coolant run back into the system? Never messed with cooling systems much, sadly. Also, what ballpark size tank should I get? I'm just going to go with a junkyard one and fab up a bracket for it. Thanks for the help tho, man.

Are you talking about the metal coils inside the hose itself?

I'd just cut the rubber with a utility knife then clip the coil with a tin snips, correct?

Right, too small won't work because there is no seal. Streatching it over to fit will be fine as it'll just help create the seal.

I think what I'll do is just buy a 2nd upper hose when I'm at NAPA getting the T.

That way I know what the correct size is and have an extra in case I need it or I screw something up somehow.

Thanks for the quick help guys!

or just use their hose to make sure the tee fits right, then hand the hose back to them.

Never had a problem "testing" things like this at any auto parts store, especially NAPA (usually just a couple older grizzly mechanics working behind the counter that know what's up)

Good advice, doing that didn't even cross my mind, I'm going to bring my hose just in case they don't have one in stock tho, I always like to be prepared haha

I'm looking at getting one about the size and shape of a 1 litre soda bottle.

I'm pretty sure the tube has to at least make it to the bottom of the bottle so it can pull fluid back in, but I could be wrong.

tube has to come from the bottom of the overflow, and the overflow needs to be "vented" at the top (thus the "open" cooling system)

Oh i see, the same line pulls fluid back into the cooling system through the nipple in the cap. That clears up my confusion
