My passenger mirror broke off one of my last times out on the trails. I was wanting to relocate them to branch off the cowl area, but with my snorkel and the fact that you can't see the passenger side too well, I want to know what else I can do. I was thinking of something towards the top of the a-pillar, maybe on the roof that isn't in the way of the door. I would like to have these mounted so I can use them with the doors off. If I can't figure anything out, I'll just get an extended rear view to assist me and call it a day.

PEEP MIRRORS - GUTTER MOUNT



My coworker bought a set for his '69 GMC truck a few months ago at the local speed shop. $22 for the 3" peep mirror set. Beats the door mounted elephant ears he had.

There are several companies selling these. Most can be found at the local speed shop. Online pricing averages $20 from what I have seen.

You can mount these to the door when they are on, or mount them to the drip rails when the doors are off.

I'm not familiar with paint and such, but is there a coat or certain things I could spray on the mirrors/brackets to give the chrome a flat/blacker color? I'm not opposed to the chrome, might accent the XJ nicely, but I do like my all black look.

You're welcome! I'm surprised I haven't seen them on here before considering how many avid hot rodders are on here.

You can rough the surface with 220 grit sandpaper. And depending on which paint you use, a coat of primer may be necessary. Prep work is key to any paint job, no matter how small it is.

 

So I recently came across an auto store that sells those. I'm hesitant because of my snorkel on my drivers side. I'll have to check it out. I was also wondering if I could mount something similar on my hood. I would see the mirrors from inside my vehicle/out my windshield, and they'd go right above my fender, but on top of the roof. Has anyone tried that or had experience with it? Seems like it could work, and they'd be out of the way on the trails.

 

Those are nice mirrors. I had a set on my 65 Chevy P/U.

 

Do you think they'd be fine on top connected to the gutter? I'm hesitant to putting them on the hood, since I don't know how visible they'd be.

 

I don't think that they would work if you leave the doors on because you have the window frame that would hit and wouldn't be able to open the doors.

 

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I was looking at them. I might get a mirror to test it out on the hood. Check the visibility, see how they are.

Can I mount two mirrors on the hood? A bit in front of the firewall. I wanted to mount them on the firewall, but I have a snorkel, and I don't think the passenger side would be very visible. Where with them on the hood, I'd be able to see them better. Any thoughts?
