So if any of you read my introduction of when i got here i stated that i had bought a 1998 jeep cherokee limited for a pretty cheap price and it needed a fender, header panel,and bumper. Have all the parts to fix it but i just dont have the time to put it all together with my job and school in the way. So i was looking around to see if i could find another cherokee that the owner would be willing to trade for my cherokee plus cash. I found one but now i dont know if i should trade mine for his plus cash or just bite the bullet and fix mine. Hoping i can have some good advice and maybe you guys can lead me in the right direction. Heres the description of the cherokee that i might trade mine for. Also note im gonna be using my cherokee daily and snows a chance so i would want to use 4wd alot.

Heres a few more details of it that i got from him.

3" Rough Country Lift with heavy duty shocks he installed it by himself but according to him he did it right. Rims on it are 15x8.5 and the tires are in decent condition. Has a slight vibration in the drive shaft due to the lift. Has a 231 transfer case.


1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 -Will Trade- - $3500


This Jeep runs great and has a 3" lift and all new steering links. tires are in good shape the 4x4 works good. 147k miles
Will consider trades for Honda car or 4X4 4wheeler. must be of equal or lesser value.

 

so let me get this right- someone is trading you a perfectly good truck + cash for your wrecked truck and you have to ask if it's a good idea? call that guy before he changes his mind..

The deal so far that i talked to him and he gave me is that i would give him my cherokee with all the parts to fix it and i would give him another 2000 on top of that.

 

how many miles does your's have,infact what are all youyr spec's??

What are your plans for it
It sounds to me like you are paying him too much for the amount of work you need to do to it.
Replace parts = 1 day & help from a friend
3" lift = >$300 or >100 if you do a junk yard and a day of work

does not sound like a good deal to me

 

Hmm, hard to say my friend. Why would someone want to trade just to have to do it all over again, and maybe i just answered my own question. All i can say is put some good thought into it. Might even take it too a 4x4 shop an have em look it over. Make sure it was done decent, not some bastardization of stuffs (not that that is bad mind you).

At least with your XJ you can decide exactly what you want to do to it and how. Built not bought always makes a person feel better. Not to mention the SEG thats on your face cause you know its right.

Well mine has 160k miles. 4.0L inline 6 motor. 242 transfer case. Limited. Leather seats. Stock has never been messed with.

And what part confuses you? Let me know ill try to clear that part up for you.

 

$2000 can go a really long way if spent right.

Fix what you got. then
300 lift
500 aussie lockers
400 gears and install kits
800 labor for install on both axles

Never thought of it that way to be honest.

But the $800 labor for the installation of the axles i dont think i would have to do since if i were to replace my axles i would replace them myself along with a buddy. And i was looking to get a rough country 4.5" lift if i were to get one.

 

I would say it would be well worth to find a day to do the work your self or at least a couple hour every other day.

 

not install of the axles, but the gears. Is that what you are talking about? I am assuming you have a 29 spline 8.25

 

Also with the 4.5' lift you will want to look into the SYE and DS for your late model.
If you don't want to want to do that then you could trim the fenders throw on some 33's and possibly add some skids
