Knowing the head will crack one day and possibly destroy the engine? Seen some good deals but have stayed away because of this and the coil packs.....and something else I can't remember right now.

What are your experiences with these years....???

They are not all bad But the coil packs suck and they have a lp d30s in them but all that can be changed

I have a bunch of 2000-01 XJs in the fleet where I work, I've only seen one with a cracked head, but it did have 175k on the odometer. The coil packs do kind of suck, but they are better for handling the high KV required to ignite the crap E10 fuel we're forced to run theses days. Don't be scared of buying a 2000-01 because of what "they" say.

Thats right...the axles is what I forgot.

My 2000 has 186xxx and runs like a new Jeep. I think you should just be aware of the warning signs if you own one. Keep a close eye on the coolant and the oil for contamination or coolant loss.

Most likely, grossly exaggerated on the internet.
Try to find out what percentage of all XJ's from 00-01 had cracked heads.
Someone once posted it's closer to 5%.
That's 1 in 20 for those who didn't graduate middle school.

If it was taken care of it wouldn't be a problem,But some people do no maintenance or lack and when it overheats they keep driving it and that cracks the head.

My 2000 runs fine and has 206k on the clock.

I wouldn't be afraid to check them out, personally...but I'd be going over that cooling system with a fine attention to details. Make sure it's nice and green, the overflow tank isn't cruddy, no oil milkshakes, etc.

I've got a 2000 XJ with 185,000 miles. Engine runs like brand new. I bought it brand new 14 years ago and have never regretted it.

What are your intentions for it? If it's a stock DD the LP D30 isn't really a concern. Like others have said not all of them crack so just be careful when checking them out.

^^ that. Then again you should be doing that with any used vehicle purchase anyway.
It isn't inevitable the head will crack and if it does it isn't a terribly costly repair if you catch it quickly.
There are thousands of those XJ's on the road every day belonging to owners who never visit a forum.

My "00 has about 223,000 miles and still runs like a champ. It's been overheated by the PO once but was fixed promptly. I know this because the PO is my best friend. To my knowledge, the head isn't cracked (that I can visibly tell when I had the valve cover off a few weeks ago) and I don't have any of the symptoms. I also haven't really had to replace many original parts out of defect, only because of age and mileage.
