Default Should I buy this engine?

I wanted to get some feedback and opinions about the reliability of a 4.0 engine I saw today.... I went to the junkyard today to get an a/c compressor for my brothers Caravan and while there I saw a nicely maintained looking '99 Jeep Cherokee which must have arrived at some point during the past week (It wasn`t there last week)...Whovever owned it obviously took good care of it as it was super clean in and out..The odometer read like 140,000 miles which isn`t horrible for a Jeep...Anyway appearently the Jeep was involved in a serious side impact collision which caved the whole side in from the drivers door back and buckled the rear tire as well as shattered the glass so it was written off by the insurance company as a total and junked...I am of the opinion that the motor should still be in good running condition but my brother seemed skeptical...It would only cost me like $160 to get the whole engine (Minus accessories).... Obviously it`s a crap shoot but since my Jeeps getting higher miles on it and smoking I have to plan ahead...Any input? (LOL. I actually am eating popcorn as I write this)

i would check the head and crank case for cracks also take a look where the bellhousing meets up and the motor mounts for damage and if all that checks out id say try and turn it over and if it runs ****** it up but if it dont turn over id say screw it just get it anyways.

For the price I would buy it and make it to a stroker motor

140K is great...next time you go back pull both the blowby tubes off the valve covers and check them out if they are nice and clean thats a good start. 99-01ish came with the 0331 head which had issues with cracking. but you should have the nice 99+ intake manifold.
