Default Shorting out coil pack

Am tryin to diagnose possible rod knock but it's got a coil pack so to disable each cylinder one at a time can I use a test light to ground out the clip and break the wire with the needle of it and disable that cylinder. Will this work to help me find if I have rod knock?

I'd take a used plug and break the ceramic off, then screw it in before I'd short out the coil pack.

Shorting it at the plug shouldn't hurt it.
But you'll probably ruin the boots.
Or unbolt it - move it away 6", then make a set of 6" plug wires to connect the rail to the plugs.

But why not just disconnect each injector one at a time - easier.

How would you "disable" a cylinder? The pistons will keep going up and down regardless of spark and fuel, just won't make power, right?

Exactly right. It will go up and down just not with as much force so in theory it should stop making noise if there is a problem with that cylinder
