I had RC and they sucked. JMHO I still have them up front but I put some Rancho shocks in the rear my buddy gave me and they ride way better even being way to short. lol I will be getting a set of BDS shocks they have a Life time guarantee so if you ever blow a seal ( like i did on the RC the first time out) they will replace it for free.
What about Bilstein 5100 series? Although in the same price range as the OME, I heard they are better?
I have a set going in this weekend with an RE 3.5" so I will let you know how that goes.

Rancho 5000 RS5129 and RS5128 love them awesome offroading and feels alright on highway but nice enough not to feel like inverted leaf springs. If I had the money the RS9000.

Bilstein is a hard shock to beat, great quality.
Stupid Noob Question but...
Does what kind of shock(s) I choose now have any bearing on if I want to do a mild lift later? The front lift comes from shackles/spacers - so the style of shock doesn't really matter, right?

Yes, Shocks only extend so far and will limit your uptravel.

Find some JK shocks.. They will fit stock and good up to 3.5" of lift.
Otherwise, Shocks for a V8 ZJ upcountry will work stock and for up to 3" of lift.
IF you go with RC, Grimus can hook it up.
