Default shock boot location?

I'm a noobie to putting new shocks on, so I was curious about how far down the actual shock itself do you slide the bottom portion of the boot and then ziptie it? I want to make sure I put it in the right spot so later on it doesn't work itself upward. Thanks for any info

I do not have them on mine anymore, have heard good and bad about them, some feel they collect dirt and moisture which hurts the shock,I paid $3 each for mine. Personal choice in my opinion.

I run boots. There is no way they would hurt the shock. They wouldn't make them.

I agree had boots did not hurt anything, did not put them back on as a personal choice.

x2 I think boots are mostly for looks than protection.

boots arent necessary, more for looks. I dont run boots so I can see the condition of the rods, boots will hide a bent shock rod. its all about what you like.

My opinion is that if you are in a lot of dirt and mud, then the shock boots protect the shock enough that it doesn't have so much junk to scrape off the shaft.

boots look cool, all they do is trap stuff in them which makes the top off the shocks rust and rot out
