You don't shorten the tcase whatsoever, I have no idea where you got that idea. Its the driveshaft length that is changed. The SYE kit eliminates the sliding shaft.

You'll still need shims to do this correctly.
Description:

Since 1994, JB Conversion has sold the "HD Slip Yoke Eliminator" kit for all models of the NP231 transfer case. With many thousands of HD kits on the trail, JBC have had 100% success with not one failure. The target market of the original HD SYE kit was the Jeep YJ and TJ. The typical Jeep suspension lift in past years was 3.5" to 4". Suspension companies have now moved into the next level of design often call "long-arm" kits. These new suspensions yield high travel and high lift. The HD SYE kit that was once more than adequate is now coming up a bit short. For suspensions in excess of 4 inches, JDC have designed this HD SYE kit that shortens the overall length of the NP231 by another 3-1/8" over the standard HD SYE.
Features:
  • 3.125" shorter than other HD SYE kits on the market
  • Overall length shorter than an Atlas II
  • Proven 32 spline output shaft
  • Allows for maximum length in the rear driveline
  • Electronic speedometer feature for accurate speedometer adjustment
  • Includes 1310 CV yoke
  • 1310 CV end yoke supplied in the kit has been redesigned from the more common Spicer 2-4-5341 yoke
  • Yoke has additional clearance for those needing a high angle driveshaft. The new yoke is also shorter than the competition.
  • Designed for suspensions in excess of 4 inches
I got this from http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/...ter-p-168.html

And again I quote, "For suspensions in excess of 4 inches, JDC have designed this HD SYE kit that shortens the overall length of the NP231 by another 3-1/8" over the standard HD SYE.". Without a tcase drop I actually needed a sye kit for my 3.5" lift
