k its weird at about 45-50 when my jeep is in overdrive i let off the gas pedal almost all the way off to where my foot is barely givin any gas and my tranny downshifts. give it more gas and the rpms raise and it goes back into overdrive. so this all started yesterday after i degreased my engine. i got a new tps today and it set perfectly, this is my first automatic jeep. is this how it is supposed to work? o and its a 1990 4dr xj 4.0 aw4 tranny. any feedback is great!

 

mine kinda does the same thing if i drive with it in od around town, but i mostly drive around in 3 around town and put it in od when going 55+

 

it also does the same thing at lower speeds between 2nd and 3rd though

By down shift you mean from OD to 3rd or 2nd? Do the RPMs go UP??? This may be a miss adjusted TPS. If the Rpms are dropping that would be normal and a sign of shifting INTO OD and/or the TC locking/unlocking.

 

ya the tps was adjusted and re adjusted haha it was spot on perfect and i chececked again after i put it back together. has the correct reading so its normal this to happen? the rpms raise a lil bit ya but when i get on the gas it almost fels like it goes back into gear. sorry its really hard to explainand thanks for the help

 

it is normal if you are driving at or within a few mph of the speed it goes into od, speed up a lil or slow down to get outta that range, or deal with it, it is alrite to drive like that, almost all autos do that

 

okay man thanks just makin sure i was not messin something up, its just weird how it started after spraying off the engine
