Ok so I've been searching this forum and playing with my jeep for weeks. I need some help. 94 2 door. Aw4 231j. 340+. Ok what started as under 50% + throttle getting worse. Chuggs and bucks and backfired through the intake. Even when parked I can mash the gas and it hits 2500 to 3000 then drops and repeat. Will not start on the first attempt. Will on the second. Every time. I've changed the fuel filter, dist, coil plugs and wires. Before I throw cps, tps at it I need some input. Thanks in advance

 

To me it sound like a possible fuel problem not your cps. You should start by checking your fuel pressure on the fuel rail with a mechanical pressure gauge. After doing that come back on and we can go from there if it isn't a fuel problem.

 

Sorry I was at work all day. Fuel pressure is good. Idles about 700 rpm unless I pull the plug on the tps. Lots of backfire through the intake. Gotta be a timing issue. Took a friend for a ride his cps went and had the exact symptoms so ill try that and if not i got a rebuild ill throw in.

 

Ok so I have done some more tinkering and the fuel pump is fine, the wiring not so much. The weatherpak connector was hanging down bouncing off my diff and taking a Beating. Tied that up and now the sputtering and bucking stopped.. Except for 3rd gear under half to wot. Some mornings now when it's cold it bucks until I let off the pedal completely. There is a knocking coming from my tranny. The TC bolts are thread locked and tight. Any ideas before I rip the tranny ??
