Shifter T-Handle Removal

p { margin-bottom: 0.1in; line-height: 120%; }Before removing the center console in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ. Does anyone out there know how to remove the auto transmission shifter T-Handle??? "Please advise"

I went to my Jeep Cherokee XJ, put the shifter to the bottom gear, PUSHED the BUTTON, then PULLED!!! OFF THE T-HANDLE CAME!!!! I BROKE NO KNUCKLES...
