Shifter lever
Are the shifter levers (the thing the **** attatches to in the cabin) the same on a Pugeot and AX transmission?
Long story. But in the pic you can see why I want to know...

I had the shift handle off of my Peugeot to replace the covers and the bottom of it "LOOKS" exactly like the big black part on the shift lever of the tranny in your pic. It was a P.I.T.A. to get off. Took me a few days and half a can of PB. The inside of the black part was square, with a rubber inset. It slips (not easily) onto the square part of the shift arm. Are they the same size? I don't know.

Because I have ****ty luck, and they are different transmissions.
At least that was my line of thinking. Nothing ever goes well or as planned for me. Ever.

Should have texted me. I went through this bs and did not have the right parts.
I finally ripped a shifter out of a 84 wrangler and used that because it bolts right to the transmission.
Up side. No more sloppy XJ shifter.
Down side. Goodbye center console.

What I meant is...what does the shifter linkage connect to under the top plate that is held on by those two bolts.
Is it easy to remove those two bolts, take off the entire shifter lever assembly, and replace it? Could it be done with the trans bolted in place if I remove the shifter boot?
I like the weld anything in place idea. A wrench or something would be really slick, honestly!
