Default She's singing a song bearings

Okay, i heard a noise that i never want to hear. The jeep is singing....yes singing ....same sound as bad breaks make, but its happening when my brakes ARENT being used. I havent pressed on the brakes when it starts singing so i dont know if it stops or not when you hit the brakes when its doing it. Now the only things i could think of it being are brakes and wheel bearings.....and i dont really have to time to check what the problem is sooo figured i'd just get you guys to tell me some symptoms of each or what else it could be. Really dont want to replace the wheel bearings.... way to early for this crap

Could be loose bolts that make a chirping sound. Check control arms and trackbar and tcase bolts

its not a squeak or anything like that, its a squeal. It goes like squeal...squeal...squeal..squeal..squeal.squeal.sq ueal.squeal. See what im talking about? its a constant sound with interval breaks in it if that makes sense.

Do you have dust shields on your brakes any more? If so, they could be rubbing.

Or it could be the little metal tab on the pads letting you know they are getting low.

dont have dust shields, was thinking it may be the brakes but it does it when the brakes arent depressed, not sure if it still does it when you press them down, havent tried that yet

If it does it when the brakes are off but is silent when you press them I'm 99% sure its the tabs that let you know your pads are getting thin.

Typically you only hear the screetch with the foot off the brake when that tab is scraping.

So it was a squealing sound and not a grinding sound right? The last vehicle I had where the front bearings went bad I was getting more of a interval grinding sound where the bad bearings would rub on the spindle. But is the time between the intervals constant? Does the Jeep pull to a certain direction? Could be a possible caliper dragging or you need new breaks.

i had a sound similar from how ur describe urs and it was the transfer case bearing that the front drive shaft uses or whatever is called, and when took out my front drive shaft it stopped it might be that, and i thought it was the brakes as well

the time is constant, and it pulls to the right a little but i think all vehicles are made to go right if you let loose of the wheel. Now that i think about it, it does pull slightly to the right when you really slam down on the brakes....

It sounds like your caliper is sticking. You can check them by removing the tire and see if you can freely turn the hub and rotor. If not that caliper is sticking.

Short of road imperfections altering your intended course of travel the vehilce should always stay straight.

It ain't main bearings, rod bearings, or transmission bearings...therefore, it is not a REAL problem.

I vote for wear clip, loose shields, loose rear shoes, or (my personal favorite) the self-adjuster fell apart and is now grinding itself into iron ore.

Jack it up and try to wobble the tire. There shouldn't be any play in it at all, if there is, it could be the wheel bearings.

I know that's a test for ball joints, but I had wheel bearings go bad and caused the wheel to wobble as well.
