Shaking at certain speeds?
OK so here are my symptoms. And yes I have been Google searching and looking through threads. I have shaking at 55 mph, but at 60 its not as bad. But at 65 good lord it gets bad again. I think it might be death wobble but I am not sure.
I just replaced my track bar with an adjustable one. The shaking is less intense but its not gone.
I did get into somewhat of an accident. I ended up in a ditch full of ice. Popped a tire and well it wasnt good lets go with that. So maybe the alignment is off.
I am at 3" of lift 31" tires. Just kinda need to figure out a fix as soon as I can. Have to drive it for 100 or so miles tomorrow and the same distance back because of drill. I mean Itll make it, but i wont be going 55 the whole way most likely.
Snows been gone for a while I know. But I havent been driving the XJ up to drill since the shaking started. But now I have too and from trying to figure out whats wrong to now needing to drive it. Kinda need some idea of what I can possibly do to make it stop or lessen by alot so the drive isnt super unbearable.
Thanks

when u say a tire popped, i asume it blew and you got it replaced, i would check the rims to see if they are bent. if not check your wheel bearings and all of your TRE's if all looks good get the tires rebalanced.

I've not heard of death wobble going away when you speed up, lol. Then again maybe nobody's tried it. Normally you mash the brakes while checking the mirror to see what suspension parts may be in the road behind you.
I'd check the rim as mentioned, also agree that an out of balance tire is a common fault behind a shake that only occurs at certain speeds.

I have a similar issue, however I'm at no lift more like lower then stock really (damned leaf springs). To me it doesn't seem like death wobble, perhaps because I'm still stock. Either way at 3" lift or stock death wobble should be more scary if you ask me.
I'm subed to see how this turns out.

Out of balance tires and alignment issues aren't nearly as severe a shake. And that's a good point, not every shake in an XJ is death wobble.

I have a shake at around 65 mph as well. The shake goes away once I'm over 70 mph. It is not as severe as death wobble, but I'm attacking it as if it were.
I'm at stock height (or a little lower with leaf sag.)

Unfortunately for me its neither the tires (purchased last year, and re-balanced two months ago with slight improvement) or an alignment (done over a year ago after replacing TRE's with no noticeable change)

Something to do anyway, rotate and balance. Take it from there.

The rim on the tire that got blown isn't on the jeep. I have more then 1 set of rims and tires.
Balance and alignment seem to be the consensus. No time for an alignment, maybe rotate the tires. But I don't have a whole lot of time today to mess around with taking stuff apart.
Thanks for the help. keep the ideas coming please!

Ok well besides my BPE breaking. Greasing things up helped it out a bit. Need to get it aligned and recheck the tire balance.
