My 01 Cherokee (4.0L) just recently started grumbling and shaking a bit at startup. It starts up, shakes, shuts down, then on the next start up, runs a bit off, then just settles into a normal idle.

Is the timing off? Is there anything else it could be?

Run a bottle of seafoam through the gas tank. May be dirty injectors. clean throtle body. CPS may be going bad. Check to see if there are any trouble codes.

Last oil change I added a quart of the Lucas Oil Treatment to the oil, as recommended by someone, and a bottle of Lucas something or other for gas treatment, but none of that seemed to stop the noises/shaking.

I forgot to mention, as well, I'm having a bit of knock coming from the engine which obviously sounds like it goes away after i add a bit of gas. A few people suspected it was the lifters or something, I'm wondering if these two things, shaking/knocking are much closer related than I originally considered.
