shaking
My 97 charokee shakes violently at speeds of 50-65 mph I just bought it and this was how it was at time of purchase. I have replaced every tie rodend ball joint bushing in the front end and it still shakes any ideas

speed specific vibrations are usually balancing issues. you might have a tire thats out of balance. I had an out of balance tire that shook the hell out of my rig at 47-55 mph.

had the same issue with my 94 xj,I too, replaced all the bushes after visiting many shops and getting different storys at each one, still had the problem. I asked all the shops " should I replace my steering damper ?" they all said no, my Rancho damper looked good. Wrong !! it was worn, only a bit less stiff around centre position, I replaced it with a standard one and now it drives like new, even with 35 x 12 mickey thompson M/Ts. also check your panhard rod (from one side on diff to chassis on the other side) for cracks, worn joint, or worn bush.

My understanding of “death wobble” is this. Somewhere in the vehicle, one or more components is worn beyond tolerances, and when oscillation initiates from a suspension “traumatic” event or when a vibration reaches a certain point and harmonic at a certain speed, it causes the other components to react. It is called the “multiplier effect”, where one component affects one or more other components as the event travels through the system.
Death wobble is not uncommon with the XJ. Finding the worn component or components is not always easy. Sometimes it’s obvious, other times everything appears to be okay when you perform an inspection on a hoist, but getting the vehicle up in the air and going over everything with a fine tough comb is always a good first step. It is very helpful if you know or have a technician that knows how to perform a comprehensive inspection.
Possible causes of DEATH WOBBLE. Isolating death wobble is a process of elimination and the root cause is not always obvious.
Note: It can oftentimes be due to a combination of things!

-Loose track bar
-Worn track bar bushings
-Worn track bar end
-Bad bushings/joints in control arms

-Worn/damaged shocks
-Worn/damaged tie rod end
-Bad U Joint
-Bad ball joint
-Loose frame mount
-Steering box loose
-Bad front hub assembly
