Default sensor identification

There are three sensors on the engine block... trying to figure out which is which... there is the one on the oil filter neck which would be the oil pressure sensor... big round joker... can this be swapped for the smaller chrome ones that oreillys and other autoparts now sell instead? when i bring it up on there site it shows like 3 and id rather not have the big honkey old school one if i can help it...

Next of course is the coolant temp sensor on the side of the block... bout midway up... think its next to the motor mount...

The last is one down close to the oil pan... about 2 to 2.5in long... this one i cant think of what it is... wanna replace it though... replacing everything on this motor and havent came across it yet on oreillys website so i dunno what it is... thanks!!

I think that's the knock sensor down by the oil pan rail.

top ones the coolant temp sensor...

middle ones the oil sending unit... ill find a pic of the newer version that oreillys shows to make sure it can be used instead...

and the other ones the one that i dont know what its for... on the drivers side of the motor behind the motor mount...

this is the oil sending unit that oreillys recommends but they also list the OEM looking one so thats why i wanna make sure... this one will save a lot more space... looks nicer... not that its a big deal but...

I can't tell, does it go into the water jacket? It might be a block heater.

keep in mind the pics they show dont always match the actual part, that one you showed is a style aftermarket of knock sensor IIRC and can work i believe. I know the location you mention is that of the knock sensor on the RENIX 4.0Ls and im not positive but i dont think it changed when they went to HO 4.0L.

i know this is a RENIX sensor page but it shows the pic you posted as a generic replacement for knock sensors.

Thats actually a very helpful link ive never seen... I need to start a folder with useful links... It is the knock sensor... Pulled it out a little bit ago and the electrical plug is the same as the newer model one... Problem is I broke it when taking it off... Wrench slipped and cracked it... There $70 new... So gonna check prices online later...

Also that site helped me figure out what another sensor was... The one on the back of the intake manifold for the idiot light... Mine was installed cross threaded and with plumbers tape... A big no no...
