Default Sending unit question....

Ok, I know this has been asked 1000 times but didnt find what I wanted in the search. Have a new sending unit in the garage right now. Popped the hood and found it but cant really figure how to get the old one off......dont want to break anything. Also, can I change this out without draining the oil? Tell me and I promise i will go change it right now. hahaha

YOu unplug the wire. Put a wrench on the hexagon shaped part and turn counter clockwise, reverse on install.

the ones i've done have always been in there really good and my wrenches would just slip off the sending unit. after you have it unplugged i would use vice grips. you only get about a quarter turn at a time and u have to re set the vice grips every turn. its just one of them things that take a minute but slowly but surely it'll come right out. possibly somebody has a quicker method but every time i've done them it takes about twenty minutes.

There are special sockets for the sending unit, but a wrench will work most of the time. Do not use teflon tape when installing the new one, do not wrench on the plastic part of the sender, and do not over tighten it.
