Sell or Run into the ground
Hey all, I have a 1999 XJ and got some modifications to the body but none to the suspension or engine. My XJ has 82,000 miles on it but the oil pressure is low and my mechanic is saying he might have to replace the motor. I love my baby but I can hear some stuff not sounding right. Do I run it into the ground or sell it before the issue is bigger?
A '99 XJ with 82k miles yet has a long life in it, methinks. Why not spend a little bit of time and effort to diagnose and troubleshoot the issue(s)? If that's not an option, I'd say sell it to someone who can put the time and effort into making things right. Ignoring and not knowing the issues are until they've completely killed the vehicle seems a waste, and not just a little dangerous. My two cents, not worth much...
how low is the oil pressure, and how is it being measured ?
is your mechanic highly competent and do you trust him ?
Does the engine burn oil ?
have you done an engine oil analysis to check for the presence of bearing metal in the oil ? ($40)
considered changing out the oil pump ?
That is low miles...is that the result of very numerous cold start/short run useage?...that can cause a lot of engine wear
