Has anyone had to put shoulder belts in the rear seats of an 87-89 xj?My boys are both still young and i would really like to take them places in the jeep!

I came across this thread whil esearching the same topic. If I cannot find a way to install shoulder belts for the back, I will probably install a 3 or 4 point harness for each kid in the back.

Good way to go. Just be sure the shoulder strap goes well above their collar bone height as to prevent injury during an accident or roll over.

SUCCESS!!!!
Turns out the stock shoulder belts will work from the newer models.

Apparently the older XJ bodies have the mounting holes for the rear shoulder belts.
I was wondering this since the XJ was sold overseas. Before playing with Cherokees, I played with Fiats. While the 76 124 Spider and the 79 128 only had lap belts in teh U.S., they were a requirement in most European countries. As a result, the manufacturer had the mount point for 3 point, but only installed lap belts.
Big thanks to LanShark!
Looks like I'll be hitting the JY soon!

I found that thread by landShark as well. Good write up! Only problem is I did not have the mounting nut welded into the roof near the headliner like he did. I will have to somehow figure out how to get one up there.
