Default Rear seatbelts pre 90 XJ

I own a '87 XJ without rear shoulder seatbelts. (First time owner of any XJs)

Would rear shoulder seatbelts off a newer XJ install on my '87 XJ or is there a place where I can buy rear shoulder seatbelts to retrofit my XJ?

I have not looked to see if there are any bolt holes around the rear trim or roof line.

The struts in the newer XJ's with shoulder belts are far more reinforced than the ones in the '87s. If you wanted to install a shoulder belt, you would have to weld in some reinfocement to the unibody in order to make it work safely. It would involve a lot of fabrication work.

He's right you might as well stick with the lap belts.

Yes you can. I did mine when i did my swap! Mine is an 85 that came with just lap belts in rear. My donor was a 91. Everything as far as holes were already was in the 85. You will need the interior panels and head liner if you want it to look factory. I'm heading out the door right now---BOSS is waiting to head for the mountains for 3 days... PM me with a reminder and i will post pics and all the ness. info tues.

I did the pre-90 cherokee rear shoulder seat belt install.
I also did the small video-up(write-up).
