What could i use to seal up a hole on the floor of the xj? I cut a 2.25" hole to run some hoses through and i want to seal the hole around the hose so it's secure and won't allow the elements in. Isn't there a type of sealant that you spray on the area and it puffs up and seals it? Or should i use something else?
Keep in mind the hoses get pretty hot so this has to hold up against the hot hose.

 

ive always used silicone sealent, but not for that big.
they have something called great stuff that is a spray foam and expands and covers pretty well, then can be trimmed down. very sticky stuff though

Get some automotive "seam sealer" at any decent size auto parts place, like Napa, or go to a auto paint/body supply store. It will come in a caulk tube size, and just use it in a caulk gun. The stuff will stay flexible, plus you can paint it or cover it with a bedliner.

Don't know how much heat affects the "Great Stuff" but have used it around the house but not on the Jeep. I think it is waterproof too. Go read the description at Lowes or Home Depot. The package must have some guidelines.

 

You could try and find a rubber grommet that's the size you need.. How big is the gap between the hose and the hole? If it's not to big just use some sealant like others have said. If the gap is large enough you could have a shop weld in some sheet metal to narrow the gap enough to use a little sealer to seal it up.

 

My parts store had a few rubber grommets but it was too hard to get it on since the hoses were already connected and I didn't want to disconnect them and lose coolant again so I did what i did on my TJ when i cut a 4" hole in the hood. I used crankcase hose and slit the outside open and put that around the cut. It looked like a regular grommet but without the rubber in the middle. It will do fine keeping the hose away from the sheetmetal. With that home-made grommet in place and hoses routed through it, there's about 1/8" gap that i filled with regular rtv sealant. I guess that'll do.

I did see GREAT STUFF at Home Depot today. It says it can withstand temps up to 260 degrees so it would've worked. I decided to wait on that till spring when i relocate the heater and set the hose in a permanent position.
