The best solution with the stock links is to cut the link in 1/2, add 2",3", or 4" of solid or hallow tubing and re-weld it back together. Strongest setup and cheap. You can cut it and pay like $30 to have someone weld them.

You talkin about those rubber washers? Those are only to keep it from rattling, which it will do without. It was so annoying on mine, that i could feel it through the steering wheel. Clunk, clank, clunk on every turn. The main problem with that setup is it is "loose" at the bottom. It needs to be tightened down or else it will clunk around.

I want the disco...

And I was just going to pick up some f-350 rear links. I called a guy on a craigslist ad. He said he's using f-350 rear links on his XJ and they work fine.

I'll see if I can get him to send me some pics, I think they're about 3" longer.

As for the disonnect, I'm thinking of a clever way to get that tightening ability, but still have quick disco...maybe something like this? They're threaded so you can re-tighten them, but also have a latch allowing for a quick release.

I'm gonna order from these guys maybe:

3rd product up from the bottom. Those discos look nice. I've been emailing the guy from zone about regular non-discos. He has them for 4.5" lift but not as a kit but is working on that now and will let me know how much (probably $40).

I made my own just like these... First I cut the links in half and added 2" to match my 2" BB lift, then, I hit the hardware store.

Found this link after someone else described how to make them...

Work great, but will add some rubber or urethane washers. They don't rattle yet. Yet, but it is a Jeep.

What do you think about maybe fabbing up a quick disco using a latch design kinda like that? I'm still figuring out how I'd implement it.

for under $100 I'll just buy a nice set of prebuild disconnects for the lifted xj.

For the none lifted, I'll use the article poste da few post above here.

Why do that? I didn't even pay a hundred bucks for my 4.5" lift. It's call budget building, Kind on like why you welded your diffs instead of buying lockers. .

Heck...been running with out the front either for a few weeks now (haven't had time to get around to putting it back on), and other than increased sway from the front being disconnected, no problems at all.

Not trying to lecture or anytihng but as with any Jeep, lifted or stock, slow down and take it easy. It's not a Ferrari
Howdy neighbor! Be careful with that front out. It can really change things when you put some weight on the brakes and make a turn (such as dodging the deer around here).

Good luck at UNCC and hang in there!
