Okay, so I think I want just about 2". This should give me a nice boost but not too much where I need to start worrying about angles, etc. I was looking at budget boosts with shackles and coil spacers, but I don't really like the idea of it. I saw Blue was talking about using s10 leafs and f150 coils with a certain model monroe shock. Would this install require any modifications? Do the leafs just bolt up, etc?
Thanks guys

Well angler hate to disappoint you but it will give you a pretty stiff ride. The height will be what you are after but the ride may be a little too harsh for your tastes if you like the OEM springs.
if you use the s10 leafs in the back the right way you will get close to 5" lift, dont know much bout the ferd coils but it may be stiff up there, the rear will flex nice and ride is not tight, kinda soft

The problem with the Ford coils is they were designed to carry a much heavier vehicle with a big 390 V8 and are designed to carry all that weight. Once installed on a much lighter Cherokee the stiffness will be harsh.

if you look at my pics on the intro page you'll see mine. i got close to 5.5 loaded and no i didnt have to redrill the holes. i just cut the main eye off and bolted them in mixed with xj leafs here and there but if you only want 2" then just put in the main leaf and the rest of your xj leafs and thats where you'll end up.

so to keep a smooth-ish ride, S10 bastard pack with the main leaf, and maybe coil spacers with the new shocks? I'm still kinda weary of coil spacers though.

You don't have anything to worry about coil spacers unless you go to a 3" or more spacer. Your XJ already has coil spacers that are 3/4" your just sliding in an additional one for a little 2" boost. Go to juck yard and get some Rear Swaybar links to extend your shocks with, a few stock coil spacers off of some other jeeps depending on how high you want to lift it, and then build a s-10 pack to level it out. You can make a nice 2.25" lift out of this and still use the stock parts. Only money involved is buying of the parts at the junk yard. Usually less than 30 bucks. All it takes is time. Let me know if you want to know the how too.
If you are concerned about a nice ride and if your front springs are old and worn, get some decent coil springs or 2" spacers. I would seriously avoid f-150 springs. Almost all the posts regarding these speak of rough ride because the spring rate on those springs are for trucks, not jeeps. You may save some $$ getting them from the jy but would eventually regret the saved $$ due to the ride quality.
If you are looking for a cheap 2" coil spring instead of a spacer, check out my for sale thread. I'm getting rid of my 2" coil springs cheap.
Desertfox is right about stock coil spacers. They are called rubber isolators and are $5 each and .5" thick. You can stack them for desired height. I used to use two of those with 1" spacer for a 2" lift.

When building a s-10 pack it's all about the combination of leafs. First take both spring packs apart and mark each leaf. For a 3" lift I would try using the XJ Main, S-10 Main, S-10 2nd leaf, XJ 3rd leaf. If you need more lift I would change it to XJ Main, S-10 Main, XJ 2nd leaf, S-10 2nd leaf. Or if you need less lift try XJ Main, S-10 Main, XJ 2nd leaf, XJ 3rd leaf. You just have to try different combination and see what happens. A note is that usually XJ Main, S-10 Main, S-10 2nd, S-10 3rd make about a 4.5 lift.

I did this yesterday and i had a hard time getting the springs to line up. The holes for the center pin. I think I will fix it when i grab some shims. It is ridiculous how much thicker the s-10 springs are.
