Default Rusty bumper, best solution?

Hey there,

My bumper has several bubbly rust spots on it. I suspect the previous owner repainted it at some point because the rear bumper is fine, only a few scratches but that's it.

I was thinking maybe sanding the bumper and repainting it, but I'm not sure yet. I've heard good things and bad things too. Some saying it will rust again within a year whera others saying if done properly it will last a good time.

So my question is, what is the best solution for me? This is no where urgent, but I would certainly like to have a nice looking bumper. Is it worth the time of sanding and repainting it? Is it worthless because it won't last?

If there is already a thread with this explained, sorry for not finding it, and I'd be glad if you link me to it, or just tell me your opinion.

Thanks!

Id say to take it off, sand/grind it prime and paint and you should be fine and last a while

Take it off, scrub it down real good with a wire wheel on a grinder or something that will do the job and give it a good prime and paint. Maybe even hit it with some spray can bedliner if you want

Thanks to both for the quick replies.

Seem to have the same suggestions, so I'll probably end up doing that. What primer / paint do you recommend? Rust-o-leum? When it comes to painting, I'm not real good.

Rustoleum is pretty good for the price, and can be found at just about any walmart

For a cheap good looking bumper, I would just take some 320grit sand paper and go over it real quick followed by some black rustoleum paint or sprayable undercoat/bed liner. Just make sure that after you are done sanding that you wipe it down with a wet paper towel, followed by a dry one to get all the dust off. Sorry, i've learned a lot from my boyfriend who is a painter Then, spray in a warm area so the paint can cure and dry properly. Good luck, hope it looks good when its done

I'll try to remember and post results! I have to wait to be in the proper environment tho, here I don't have a garage or a proper interior environment and it's a pretty rainy couple of days.
