Default Rusting Driver leaf spring mount.

on my 94 cherokee the drivers side rear leaf spring is rusting out around where the mount attaches to the frame and I'm wondering what I need to do to either weld some new steel on there or is it better to just find a new cherokee frame this is mainly a daily driver not for offroad use really at all.

Moved to OEM Tech.

Depending on how bad the rust is on the mount and surrounding area it can be done.

If its just the mount and the frame in that area is fine it can be done easily.

Yes, that can be fixed. You'll have to replace what is above the mount as well, but that looks like its really whats bad.

I would either fix that, or get another xj and take everything you want as far as parts off that one, i guess it depends on how much sentimental value you have in your xj.

So much more work than just fixing it.

Im not saying thats what i would ultimatly do, but it depends, hows the rest of your floors? , framerails, etc.. If thats all thats really wrong then id fix er up, i replaced my floorboards, i would just weigh it out. I would never replace my current xj unless i had too.

Yeah, I suppose if the rest of the truck looks like that it may after all be worth it.

But I am an adventurous guy. I would try to fix about anything.

I think you will find the mount itself is pretty solid. The floor in that area is a pain to fix. But i have to agree with the others, well worth the time. Get to it from the top (If i remember right thats near the area of the seat brace for the back seat) clean all the metal up with a wire wheel, or cut off wheel. Once its all cleaned up you can see what you have to work with. My tip is take your time and do it right the first time! Did my floor pans with a roll of sheet metal and a bender. I rushed twards the end of the project and Already have to redo a few spots. Good luck!
