First real post so bear with me!
I bought my 1998 Cherokee sport about 3 months ago. Love it so far. Good truck good price.
Just needed some TLC. Alternator plugs wires etc.
The previous owner welded on a reciever hitch in the back. Nice except it was rusty as heck
The only serious rust on the whole vehicle. So I figured I would try an experiment.
I wire wheeled a lot if the heavy rust off. Brushed it clean. Then used a paint brush to apply
Some left over Black jack Rubr coat #57. 3 months later the hitch is still rust free. Still black and holding up to Florida extremes well. Sun rain sand mud etc.
I will continue to monitor it and report back with a longevity post.
If it continues to hold up this well it would be a good candidate for floorboard patches and general undercoating. Water soluble so no nasty smell and easy clean up.

Rubr coat is a roof repair product that can be had fairly cheap.

Welcome. Great post! Luckily in southern ut rust is not a problem.

The truck was originally from North Carolina so I am watching it closely lol.
But since this material is a water proofer it would be good for patches in floor pans or a coating for axels etc if it keeps the rust at bay. Around 50 bux for 5 gallons so doesnt break the bank.

Anything can be used to stop rust as long as it completely(!) seals off air and water. The problem is many of these materials dry out, shrink and crack. If that happens it's all over.
Will be interesting to see how this holds up over time.

I have found the key to stopping the shrink/crack problem, with rubberised roof coating anyway, is to apply a couple of thin coats.The hitch has 2 coats on it with about an hour dry time in between. I agree long term will be interesting. Everything else is good so far. No fading and not sticky or gummy.
