Hey guys. so my radiator and coolant have always been bomb proof so I have never had to mess with my coolant system.

So my jeep's running temp is starting to run just under the redline almost all the time. Im kinda wondering if its a sensor issue because in the "old days" Id be at a red light and it would be hot and sit around halfway between normal and red, it used to be that once i got on the gas when it got gree, the temp gauge would begin to go down descently fast. ( i know that was a hell of a run on sentence) any way, now it seems to take a while to start to cool down in a situation like that.

My AUX fan does kick on pretty simultaneously with when my tempgauge gets high. not sure if they related through sensors. I dont have too much experience with the thermostat, but I have heard that they can start to goand if you replace them you can change your temp significantly.

Its a 1992 Cherokee Laredo High Output inline 6

I did get my temp gauge to read above the red this summer! too scary. I was in Boise and my friends wanted me to drop them off to go tubing and I didnt realize there would be about 1000 people there and about 300 cars dropping off in a tiny cultesac (*spelling). I idled for about 30 mins hardly creeping in 108 degree temps. the gaughe was about 3mm past the highest of the red. I kept waiting to hear _-*BOOM*-_ and see coolant pour out. it didnt. I just waxed my jeep that day so it liked me and there fore that is the only reason it didnt blow! Yeah, I have that kind of a relationship with my XJ, therefore it would be a woman!

So, you've never done any cooling system maintenance on a 19 year old XJ? Never drained/flushed/re-filled the cooling system with fresh antifreeze/coolant?

 

no... Im not saying that, I have drained and refilled and totally flushed out the coolant. I just meant like never replaced a theromstat or a radiator
