Will it make a difference if I run my 4.0 without the AC compressor hooked up? It will essentially be another idler.

No difference. When my compressor seized, I just disconnected it to prevent inadvertent engagement until I got a replacement.

Newer models have a plain idler available to delete the compressor but it's not available for our lovely Renix rigs.

Do you plan to replace it?

No, the compressor is good (I think), It's been on my 88 for twenty years, but everyone knows jeep air conditioners seldom work. My new 90 had the line cut that runs behind the battery. Not knowing what condition it was in, I put my 88 compressor on. My problem is actually with the evaporator. The bottom connector (the one that's impossible to get to) is stripped about halfway back. I was going to use it but I have to decide if I even want to try to resurrect the ac. $$$

They even make a pully if you want to delete the compressor.

His profile sys it's a '90 XJ. That bracket won't fit.

My 89 has had a compressor installed with no lines hooked up for about 10-years now. Ironically, I installed the junkyard compressor because the idler pulley died and I wanted onboard air. Just disconnect the electrical connection.

Mine worked well until I had a leak and my compressor seized. Replaced the Condenser, Compressor, expansion valve and drier. Flushed all the lines and evap. Charged with R12. Still blows nice and cold. Still have 6 cans of R12 to keep it going.
