I must agree, turning the fan on with anything other than the ECU is ghetto. Only exception would be installing a manual efan switch for doing very slow crawling in high ambient temps of high water crossings.....when not doing either of those flip the switch back and let the ECU control the efan.
Leave the CTS in the original location in the t-stat cover so that FLOWING coolant constantly covers the tip of the sensor.
Here's ghetto.....fashion a mount for the original temp gauge sending unit and install it in the 3/4" ID heater hose close to the t-stat cover.....and if u really want to know whats going on with coolant temp, install a digital temp gauge.
The 3rd pic is not the XJ but demonstrates the idea of mounting the sending unit in the heater hose.

I don't have the 0331 head, 999999999999.9% sure
Either way I just think its the sensor giving me an off reading. I'm going to wait and see when the weather gets back up to 70s or 80s. If anything i took your advice and found THIS on Hesco

Which is exactly what i needed but couldn't find before

That puts the sensor/sending unit directly in the coolant flow BUT be very careful mounting the sensor/sending unit.....looks like it could be very close the fan blades.
