Default running lights not working..

Before you tell me its #7 or #20 fuse, it is not.
Checked all fuses, new headlight switch (mine was melted)

So let me explain. 2000 xj
Recently installed a high output alternator around 320A.
The cars charging system went up from 12 volt system to a 14 volt system so it charges at 16 volts in stead of 14, and the resting voltage is 14 volts.

No problems for the first 2 months, everything worked great!
I would drive on my high beams since we all know how dim the low beams are, and eventually this caused a problem with my headlight switch.
I take it apart and the connector to the stock harness was melted to ****.

Installed all new pins and opted not to use a harness plug since I could not find one. I matched my pins with that of how the OE pins where installed on the switch.

Now, my headlights work yay!
But my running lights (front and rear) as well as dash lights do not work (prior to all this everything worked fine except the headlights)

SO what the hell is going on!!
Could it possibly be a DRL moduel? I hate buying parts without a clue, tried to locate my DRL moduel as described by so many websites as
"right rear of engine near firewall", but could not even locate that at all. Currently I am looking for it.

This is very fustrating any input would be greatly appreciated

let me also add, What initially made me decide to replace the switch was the stalk that you pull from the switch to turn on the lights came out completly,
And while attempting to put it back in sparks did fly a little bit
(I assume from the melted switch)

then also I checked the taillight bulbs
and the left taillight bulb seemed burnt/blackened

So I robbed one from the reverse light (which contained the same 2 filament)
and nothing. Brake lights work fine, but at night time it only the headlights
