Running 33"s on a Dana 35.
i have an 00' XJ with a 6.5" lift, running dana 30 and dana 35. Its that time to buy tires and i wanted thoughts on if running 33''s is a good idea or a bad idea. If its a bad idea, what would i have to do to run them, and would 31"s look just weird on a 6.5" lift. Thanks!

Just be easy on the pedal and your dana 35 will last. A lot of people are aggressive with their pedal, and that is what causes things to break. Get em' 33s

31s would look kinda weird. 33's is the limit with the D35 most say. Some guys run 33's all day with no problems, others complain about how the D35 sucks and is the worst axle ever put in the XJ. In my opinion, jeep would've stopped putting it in and just replaced it with the already introduced 8.25 if it was really that bad. If you run 33's without re-gearing, it might put a decent strain on the axle if you hit some pretty serious terrain. I say find a 8.25 and swap it if you can. 31's on a 6.5 lift would look kinda little. I have no problems with my D35 and it has 235k on it. But then again, I don't have tires much bigger than stock. I run a 235 vs. the sock 225.

OD has a locked 8.25 with stock gears stock shafts on 35's.
you can beat the hell out of a D35 especially if it's open. People do it for years. Some people have good luck and some don't.
Just wheel it till it breaks

I have 31's on my 6 inch lift (see avatar). It does look a bit goofy, but rides well and gives good articulation for a suspension system that's not exotic. I'm also in need of tires, and am seriously thinking of sticking with the 31's because around here, the 'roading is more technical than anything. Officially still undecided, tho!
