RPM flux, shuts down when thermostat opens
Hey guys...
A newbie to the forum....a question
on a 2002 cherokee 6 cylinder....on the first drive of the day, when the thermostat reaches 195 and opens the engine revs and dies.stutters..etc at idle it will shut down...at cruise it will flux and recover....then no issues the rest of the day regardless of the thermostat position or engine temp. I can start, shut down let it cool and no worries..ie it will sit all day at work and be just fine....what gives?? I am thinking the computer....

Examine the connector wiring, then remove the ECT connector and examine the pin cavities in the connector for corrosion, and examine the cavities for being enlarged. Examine the ECT connector pins for corrosion.
If everything looks okay change the ECT (cheaper than a PCM).
If this doesn't fix anything....punt.

Make sure to buy quality. Mine did the same exact things and when i bought my sensor at Autozone, it did not fit right. Took it back and got a Echlin from Napa. Perfect fit. No more issues since.
