rough idle and soot when cold
Puzzle me this.
I put a new head on my 2000 xj
than it overheated! (air pocket in the pump)
Now it idles like **** when its cold.
(almost sounds like a misfire too)
OK, so I clean the choke and reset the CPU. no fix-o.
No check engine lights.

1. There is no choke on this engine. What exactly did you clean?
2. How badly did it overheat? What type of replacement head did you install? Hope you didn't crack this head as well......

IAC is a choke.
The head was never cracked. Piston 1 ex. Valve cracked and I put a 96 head on instead of messing with valves.
How bad did it over heat? Pretty bad. No water flow dew to airpocket in water pump. (Opps)
After it warms up, there is no issues.
