I have a 97 Jeep Cherokee 4.0
I had this issue awhile back and thought it had been fixed. Only when the engine is cold the jeep will cut out and jerk when driving it. It stopped before after I did a deep cleaning of the throttle body and IAC. Since buying the jeep in June i have replaced the following: plugs, wire and cap, TPS, CPS, MAP and 02 SENSOR. Could the cause of this issue be a bad IAC or something else? That is about the only sensor i haven't replaced but i have spent a lot of money fixing this since i bought it so don't want to buy something if that may not be the issue. Once the engine warms up it does not cut out much at all and sometimes not at all.

Also the idle has gotten worse lately. When sitting at a stop it goes up and down a couple hundred rpms at a time.

Any ideas?

a jerking jeep.....that doesnt sound right lol. Did you replace all those things becuase of this issue?

To answer your question: the IAC usually just needs a good clean. Is easy and free. The idle issue could well fit a malfunctioning IAC.

No they were replaced due to previous issues. The jeep had not been drove much whenever I bought it (86,000 miles). The Iac and throttle body have been cleaned twice. The IAC was in pretty bad shape even after cleaning, that is why I am leaning towards that. Just wanted to get some advice on if that would cause the issues while the engine is cold.

did not read the IAC being cleaned, my bad. Besides rough idle at stop, does it also has irratic idle when you let of the gas and coast?

It seems like sometimes when letting off the gas it will jump up a little. I don't believe it does it all of the time though.
