Did you see Dave's post #21 and go to that link? The pushrod is supposed to ride in the middle of the lifter plunger travel. That little tiny space inside the lifter that the spec calls for is thinner than a US dime. You changed everything from the cam to the head!
Yes is will all work, IF you have the right preload. But its not the first time I heard of a cam salesman completely not mentioning preload.
I suspect your bigger ( or even a new stock) cam is holding valves open. And it will continue to do so until you check preload. Also it will munch lifters. And valve stems, and cam lobes.
just my 2c
Yes! For the love of God I know how to check preload! It's not preload move on! I've built 1000hp motors I know how preload works. If preload was tight enough to hold open a valve I wouldn't be able to turn the push rod with my fingers @TDC.

After 60+posts..whew.
Curious. Did you have that valve cover on before you did the head, cam etc. without it causing any problem or did you add it along with the other parts?
Just wondering if it could be related to change in cam lift or something with the head or just another don't use Chinese parts problem

No, I put it on when I did the head and cam install. And I don't think it has anything to do with the lift since it's on the side of the valve cover, i think they didn't drill the mounting holes in the right spot.

I've heard of the Harland Sharp rockers hitting the stock valve cover, that's why I asked. I've never heard of stock rockers being an interference with an aftermarket valve cover. My money was on pushrod length, obviously. Good to hear you've figured it out.

Why bother to run it with the valve cover off, when you start a rebuild, I mean who needs to see if the rockers are all oiling. Just run it up to 2000 and hold it there for 20 mins. Who needs to set preload just spin the pushrods at TDC of some stroke, Forget base circle. Just buy a bunch of stuff and slap it together. It should be fine do it all the time on my 20,000 hp engines and for the love of god I know my stuff

Well, lets see first off you don't need to run a motor to see if the rockers are oiling, its called priming the pump with a drill, and you can figure out if preload is correct by using some math and adding up things like cam lift, gasket thickness and head height, but I'm sure you knew that seeing how you build 20,000hp engines, which is weird because Top fuel only builds 12,000hp engines but you're special i guess. And I only spun the push rods with my fingers to see if there was to much preload, which there wasn't seeing how I could spin them with my fingers! But in the end you where wrong and it wasn't preload, so thanks for your input.
