Default Rough idle and accelerates in park

Good evening to all!
My Cherokee is idling in an oscillating way (revving up and down) and I noticed that when I put it in "park" rpm's go over 1,000. I believe that one of the sensors (TPS) may be at fault. I think that you can clean it, but how?

Sorry friend, but the tps cannot be cleaned, only replaced. I got mine for $50 from auto parts warehouse. Do not cheap out and buy a cheap one. You can test it by turning on vehicle, observing how it runs, turn it off, unplug the tps, then restart the vehicle. If the problem you are having did not get worse, then your problem area is probably the tps. You might also have a problem with your iac. This can be cleaned and it took me about 30 minutes. But I took the whole throttle body off because I knew it would be dirty and it is not difficult to remove. Make sure if you take the throttle body off to have a new gasket to put on. Here is how to clean the iac https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f30/ho...le-body-76947/ hope this helps, friend

I would also check for any vacum leaks. I had one line come un-done and my rpm's would go up by four hundred! Also might not hurt to replace the distributor cap and rotor. The parts are cheap and it is a very easy install.

Your welcom. I bought a 88 Cherokee as my first project vehicle ever and this site has litterally helped me build the entire thing.
