Hi guys! Long time member, infrequent poster here. I've read through most of the thread, scanned quite a bit as there's a fair amount of nonsense sprinkled throughout 
I have an '09 WK with the 3.7L V6, and run the recommended 5-20 weight.
I have a question... There are two relatively new oils out that I have not seen mentioned here:
1. The newly reformulated (from natural gas) Pennzoil Platinum - LINK
2. Castrol Magnatec - LINK
The Pennzoil claims to offer superior cleaning, and it seems plausible.
The Castrol claims to offer better lubricity due to clinging to the metals, and sounds plausible.
What do you guys think?
Regarding filters, I've been using Purolator PureONE filters for decades.

So I had an inordinate amount of time today, and I finally registered for CF; I was pretty sure I did when I first bought my '01 Xj in 2012 but couldn't pull up anything tied to the email I would have used.
After reading all of 46 pages of this thread, I have experienced many of the things that I have found in the anecdotes in this thread. From low OP with using ****ty Filters and a bad sending unit, to the ever present RMS leak (I should probably fix that) to knocks and pings, and what is likely to be fouled cats (PO234 code) and everything in between.
I would like to give the T6 oil change a try. My previous oil of choice had been the Pennzoil Platinum natural gas 10W30. Which I had on a regular 6000mi schedule in 2014-15. That oil seemed to do pretty well though the first couple of changes were pretty dark but it started to look better at the oil changes as I had increased regular maintenance and a couple of sea foam treatments.
I have also gone from a commute of less than 2.5 miles and 10 minutes of driving to one of 25-30 miles and 45-60 minutes of driving. So with the change in driving habits I have noticed that it is not running as well as I would like it to. But to be fair it has put up with substantial neglect and abuse since I moved across the country last October, and handled it better than expected.
I am only the second owner, with 210k on it (bought at 155k) and on what I believe to be the original motor, though I can't rule out a previous rebuild but every time I replace something it seems that it hasn't been replaced before.
I feel like this thread has given me enough confidence that I might be able run T6 as a half assed insurance plan while I get ready to overhaul in the upcoming months.

Op says that Valvoline blue is designed for Cummins engines but should not be used in a flat tappet engine such as the 4.0? Well All Cummins engines to this day are flat tappet engines.

Really? I was under the impression that all of the big diesels used roller cams. Detroits do

The 1984-current Cummins B series uses flat tappets, the older ISC, ISL and M series as well as many Agricultural-Industrial engines also use flat tappets. However I believe the N14, ISX and some others do use roller lifters so I was partially wrong on my statement.

I've had the Rotella T6 stuff in the Jeep since Salad mentioned it some time ago. Tappet/rocker arm noise is still fairly quiet. 173 K miles on it now, and still doesn't use any oil.
My El Camino has 507 inch Cadillac engine in it, with about 150 miles since cam/engine break-in, with break-in additive in the oil. I'm gonna use the Rotella T6 along with the additive from Comp Cams, for flat tappet engines.
I'll see how it works out....

What temperatures is T6 5w40 good for?
Wondering if I should go for a 5w30 since I will be in the mountains a lot this winter, but I will also be on the highway a lot.
Temps don't usually dip past 0*F unless we are in an extreme cold snap though
Will probably stick with my 5.5 qts of T6 mixed with .5 qt of Marvel Mystery Oil. Jeep seems to like that combo, the MMO really quiets the lifters significantly
