ok so i found this site looking for a universal rook rack trying to save a little bit, and i stumbled upon this website: http://www.discountramps.com/car-top...roof-racks.htm
i know to measure and all that good stuff to make sure it will fit properly but my question is, would any of these make a good rack or could be adapted correctly for a XJ? now this is just an idea because of the cost. what do yall think? thanks in advance.

i've been doing some reading and just can't find for the life of me what they are made of. only thing i can find is the weight it can hold and the measurements, and of course a price.

I have been considering that gutter grabber for only $29. Seen them on Ebay. I would not need one for any serious use. Just some minor use like camping equip, duffle bags, etc. I have no plans of throwing a tire up there.

It states right in the description...
The bottom metal bars and 5" tall by 1" diameter side rails of this cargo basket help keep your luggage in place while providing plenty of tie down points. The car roof rack has a sturdy steel construction and a black powder coated finish.

As far as quality, I'm sure it'll work just fine for light use, you get what you pay for and there's a reason Thule and Yakima stuff costs what it does. Still, even though I can get wholesale on Thule stuff, the pricing still doesn't come close and for what I intend to use it for it will work fine.

I'm going to get one of the rage ones. They mount to the stock cross bars which are legally limited to 150lbs, have ahd more than 300 on my bars. Don't know capacity of those rack, even with the gutter mount. Doesn't really matter, I wouldn't put anything "Heavy" on the rof anyway. Tires and Jacks should be mounted as low as possible.
