Theres a idea. I've got mine currently stashed behind my rear seat. Just outta curiosity what size do you have and did you mount it parallel to one of the bars, or at a 90* angle to the two?

Just another quick question to throw in the mix. What is your opinions for roof lighting. I'm planning on going the Hella route. I have a set of 55w 500FF's mounted on the bumper. Does anyone have any experience with the standard 500 series? I'm pretty sure the FF's stand for "free form" and they have a pencil type beam. This leads me to believe the regulars are more of a flood light style beam. Is there a noticeable difference in brightness and beam length?

Make you own roof rack, I did. Costs about $40 bucks and you can get all the parts from Home Depot. 3/4 inch conduit a small hand bender and a tube cutter, then weld it all togather. In fact I have made two so far, I sold the second for $200 dollars.

1. I would if I could. I'm still living at home (attending college full time) and I have an less-than-understanding parent when it comes to "excessive" vehicle modification. A 3rd xmember with a quick disco plug could easily be removed/ installed if necessary.
2. I don't have access to a welder, and my last attempt at welding was beyond failure.
I like your idea though. I'll definitely consider that when I can do a roof rack w/o getting in trouble. You said you used 3/4 conduit, what is conduit exactly? Is it a specific type of metal or tubing design? sorry for the dumb question. still a noob at fab work.

Conduit is galvinized (sp?) pipe used for electrical in houses and buildings, mostly used when someone is putting 120v outlets on a brick wall. rather than having the wire just hanging out there it is run through the conduit. Its easy to bend up and when welded into a shape it's pretty strong. You just need to scuff off the zinc coating where you are going to weld.
