Hey,
Was wondering if roof rack lights/Rally lights are legal to have on the road in Vermont, Even if on the buying website they are for "Driving" And if not is there some way to make it so they can be used? Without not using them period?
P.S. Looked it up but had no luck finding anything saying you can't but a friend says you can NOT.

But if vt is anything like md, you can't have more than 4 operating lights below the hood line while on the road. Why would you wanna blind people?

Yeah you can't use them on the road that's illegal. I mean if your out in the country though using them for brights it's not like anyone is going to notice unless you leave them on

I used to run a daily newspaper route, very early morning. I had 6 or 8 lights on my bumper and ran them while on the route. Granted, it was a very rural route but I had them wired to my high beams and they'd go off when I turned my lights down to low beam. I used to meet several county cops on patrol while on my route and as long as I turned them down, they said it was fine. Now, the reason I had so much light was that I had to dodge a LOT of deer, cats, dogs, coons, possums, skunks, armadillos... etc. The first night I ran this route, I stopped counting at 85 deer and I saw many more than that. My route was about 85 miles long daily with it being about 120 miles on Sunday. You do need to check your local laws but as long as they are wired to be on only with the high beams and to turn off when switched to low, I'd say to go for it (my opinion only and what I do..).

Depends on the jurisdiction. Some areas have rules regarding total number of lights, some have rules on placement, some have rules on lumens output (or candella lol). Where I live you can run 4 lights that are aimed properly, and "high beams" must be cut off for approaching vehicles or when following. But yours is likely different. You need to check local laws. Call up the local whatever police office and tell them you're trying to be as safe as possible while remaining compliant, they'll appreciate that. If they give you good news make sure to write down the regulation or statute that permits it, keep it handy in case someone pulls you over

Looks like legal as long as you aim then down so that when 75 feet in front of your Jeep the focus is not more than 42 inches above the road. That would not give you much usable light from having them on except right in front of you. Roof of Jeep about 5 feet maybe 6.5 if really lifted and rack on top angled down to less than 4 foot at 75 feet in front of you. Legal lights would be shining pretty much downward to be legal.
