I have mine done so that after the relays and such, my hotlead to the switch runs back through the firewall and follows the hood latch cable then to the switch and back through the firewall at same spot. then my wire goes straight across the back of the engine compt (ziptied to other electrical harnesses to keep it clean. now it will be back on the passenger side. I drilled a hole in the back left of the compt on the horrizontal surface that the quarter pannel is bolted down with the torx screws. this gives you access to the passenger quarter pannel. then open up the passenger door and look into the quarter pannel and grab it. then I simply ran it up behind the dorr molding on the diagonal windshield post. once at the top of the door frame, I drilled a hole in my rain gutter, ran it through it and to my roof rack. minor drilling that wont cause you problems in the future like drilling through the roof

I drilled throught the roof and went down the a pillar then down and through the firewall. On the roof I have a connector so I can take just unplug and take the whole rack off with out having to cut or unroute the wires. I can take some pics if you want.

power from battery goes along the back of the engine bay zip-ties to other wires, through the main harness grommet - directly below the brake booster - and then into my dash where the switch is. ground and supply to the lights go under the door trim and behind the b-pillar interior plastic. Drilled a hole in the rain gutter and then have a disconnect so i can remove the rack and lights easily. I just used an alternator wire - cut it in half and you have a simple plug.
