Default Rod knock?

my 92 xj has a knock that goes away with an increase in rpm, is it a rod or something else?

Mine knocks when at low RPMs. I figure it is either piston slap, or loose torque converter bolts. Most likely piston slap. When it goes, I'm just going to put in a rebuilt one. I'll have the trans done at the same time. Mine has been knocking for two years. My brothers never knocked, it just let go of a rod. Your guess is as good as mine.

lmao nice, good to know if it runs quiet theres a problem! does your knock sound like it comes from bottom of the motor close to the fire wall? the more i read the more i think its a torque converter issue. can i access those bolts with out dropping the tranny?

Yes that is the place. I really have to crawl under there, and pull the inspection plate. It is the sheetmetal in back of the engine drain plug. Bolted to the bellhouseing. Check the bolts, and for cracks in the flex plate. I had a Slant Six Duster that sounded like a diesel when it idled. I junked it when the body rotted away. It rattled the last 150,000 miles. I just adjusted the valves now and then(solid lifters). Dustie went 310,000 on original motor.

212,000 thou on this straight 6 and the only worry is the knock, love this jeep tho. Had a date the other night and i stopped for gas and she tried to put diesel in it cause "it sounded like a diesel" lol.

Even if mine let's go, I'm fixen her. She has been a good girl for me for the last nine years that I have owned her. Been my DD the whole time. A buddy has a 95 that he is pissed off at (electrical). He is not a Jeep person, and told me to come and take it away.
