This is exactly what caused me to post this thread, it is indeed bugging me... lol

Which is better? Do I change out the other 11 or just the one? The odd ball was definitely running quieter than the others. I'm going to get the number and chase it down to know what application it is actually for.

You are absolutely right and I agree, everything after the lifter should be nothing that should affect how the lifter is working. but... sometimes back pressure can influence how the lifter works. Back in the original formula pennzoil days I remember getting plugged up pushrods a couple times and it would cause the lifters to pump up and float the valves at an RPM much lower than it should have.

The oil for the lifter comes from an oil galley in the block.

Of course it does. Then out of the pushrod to lube the rocker and valve stem tip. Notice how much the inside piston in that animation is moving after it fills with oil? They do not move like that under pressure while running, they are are almost rock solid. But to the spring and one of my original curiosities, I wonder if the spring is just too light to keep these snug?
