Default "Rock Tumbler" front end

4wd works, but in 4wd, there is excessive noise. I have a 99 xj, and my wife has a 98 xj, and with here 4wd, no noise.

My guess was u joints.

Anyway, took it to the shop. The wrench put it on the lift, then we started the xj, put it in 4wd and then drive.

Straight - no noise. Left - no noise. Right - sounds like a rock tumbler.

He thinks it needs a right axle or hub.

Suggestions?

Could be bearings or something in the diff itself.
