The crank sensor won't kill the coil. I'm saying the shop was just throwing parts at it because of a no spark condition and it just happened to start after it was replaced.

Is the crank sensor available at an auto parts store or dealer only?

I had very similar symptoms in my 89 Cherokee. In my case it was the crank position sensor CPS. Make sure if you put a new one in there to tie it down good so the wire doesn't touch and melt on the exhaust. Sucks being stranded and no access to Jeep parts. Now I carry an extra CPS, Coil, Ign Cont Mod and Fan Belt and several other items.

Just replaced my fuel pump a few months ago. Symptoms were rough idle and stumbling. Couldn't drive over 25mph. Engine was running too lean, not enough fuel. You can definitely listen for the fuel pump when you first turn the key. There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail where you can check fuel pressure when the engine is on. Should be like 35psi or higher at idle.

Available at any parts store. I got mine from www.rockauto.com for 43 bucks plus shipping. NAPA wanted 80 bones for the same brand.

Default Update

Well after my last update I continued to have a hell of a trip the rest of the way out to Reno. The start of the Rockies in Wyoming with a 43 mph headwind REALLY slowed me down. I was down to first gear on the climbs and and barely making progress. For fear of overheating the tranny I threw up the white flag and waited out the rest of that day in a parking lot until the winds began to subside after dark. The change in altitude also caused a misfire on one of the cylinders later that night. I also blew both trailer tires along the way on the remainder of the trip. Fortunately they blew at different times and I had a spare which got me past the first blow out, and then I replaced it prior to the second blow out, so I was in good shape. Nevertheless, I eventually made it to Reno.

It has been a couple weeks now and the Jeep is still running fine. That second ignition coil I replaced is still running strong and was able to ship the faulty one (that only lasted 362 miles) back to the service station that installed it back in Ohio for a refund on the part.

I'm not sure if that answers the CPS debate that transpired after my last post, but I figured this update was sufficient to close this thread out.

Thanks to everyone for your help!!

Sorta related. I had a problem with intermittent starting problems. It would crank but not fire up. Replaced coil, seemed to work for a bit (but it was random so I couldn't tell for sure) a few days later it didn't start. Replaced CPS and it was good ever since.
